The Making of a Self
This is a six-part painting series that examines identity as a layered, continuously shifting construct. Rather than following a linear narrative, the works trace an inner progression shaped by memory, perception, and transformation.
The series moves from pre-verbal states through phases of tension, withdrawal and selfprotection, toward processes of change and inward vision. Each painting functions as part of a larger system in which meaning emerges through repetition, variation, and accumulation.
Fragmented and doubled figures recur throughout the series, suggesting multiplicity, identification, and the coexistence of vulnerability and defense. Distortions, markings, and layered gestures act as carriers of psychological residue without referring to specific events.

Exhaustion is a condition that shapes the present in different ways. Between constant movement, shifting demands, and a multitude of impressions, a tension emerges between activity and withdrawal, between presence and overwhelm.
The work draws attention to the individual within structures shaped by speed, change, and development. In doing so, it explores personal limits and the relationship between inner experience and external expectations.
“Fatigue” addresses a state between strain and stillness. The body and inner world exist in relation to the demands of the surrounding environment, creating a space between functioning and pausing, between movement and rest.

Before Words, 2025
This work explores sensations that exist before they are shaped by language. Experiences from early stages of life can leave traces that continue to influence perception, memory, and experience over time.
The focus is on impressions that do not necessarily remain as conscious memories. They may emerge through images, moods, or feelings without being immediately tangible or easy to name.
The work examines the connection between past and present experiences. Earlier perceptions interact with later experiences, forming different layers of the inner world. Between what is remembered and what remains hidden, an open space for personal meaning emerges.

Walls We Trust, 2025
The work explores structures that provide orientation and stability. Rules, habits, and social conventions form a framework within which perception and action take place.
This creates a tension between support and limitation. Established structures can provide a sense of security while also influencing how the surrounding world is perceived and which possibilities become visible within an existing framework.
“Walls we trust” examines this space between protection and limitation. Between the need for security and the possibility of change, a continuous movement emerges. The work draws attention to the question of which structures support us, which restrict us, and how we relate to them.

Becoming, 2025
The work explores identity as an ongoing process. Memories, experiences, and external influences intertwine to shape a sense of self that is constantly changing.
The perception of one’s own identity remains in motion. Experiences and encounters can alter, expand, or dissolve existing ideas of the self. Different facets of personality can coexist, overlap, or differ from one another.
The outside world often perceives only individual fragments of a person: a snapshot shaped by a particular situation and encounter. Within, however, numerous layers and facets coexist, together forming a complex sense of self.
“Becoming” draws attention to this continuous transition between what has been, what is, and what is still taking shape.

Dreams, 2025
Dreams thematisiert innere Bilder, Vorstellungen und persönliche Wege. Träume können Menschen auf unterschiedliche Richtungen verweisen und stehen dabei in Beziehung zu Erfahrungen, Hoffnungen und individuellen Wahrnehmungen.
Das Werk untersucht das Verhältnis zwischen persönlicher Entwicklung und zwischenmenschlicher Verbindung. Nähe und Distanz erscheinen dabei nicht zwangsläufig als Gegensätze, sondern als unterschiedliche Formen von Beziehung.
Zwei Menschen können eigene Wege verfolgen und dennoch miteinander verbunden bleiben. Verbindung muss dabei nicht aus Gleichheit oder einer gemeinsamen Richtung entstehen, sondern kann auch durch die Anerkennung unterschiedlicher Entwicklungen bestehen.
„Dreams“ öffnet einen Raum zwischen Nähe und Entfernung, zwischen individueller Entfaltung und gemeinsamer Existenz. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die Möglichkeit, Eigenständigkeit und Verbundenheit gleichzeitig bestehen zu lassen.

Awakening, 2025
The work explores the perception of the self. Reflection, memory, and experience influence the image a person develops of themselves.
This self-image remains in motion, changing with new experiences and perspectives. Self-awareness is not presented as a fixed state, but as an ongoing process shaped by perception, memory, and reflection.
“Awakening” draws attention to the space between the visible and the hidden. Between self-perception and the perception of others, different perspectives emerge that may complement, contradict, or transform one another.
The work examines a moment of inner awareness in which familiar ideas begin to shift and new perceptions emerge. In doing so, it opens a space between certainty and doubt, between what becomes visible and what remains hidden.
